Prefer to take part in a more light-hearted race for the whole family? Introducing the ABP Newport Wales Family Mile, the ideal run for those looking to take the day a little more easily than our 10K and marathon runners, but still get involved in what promises to be an incredible day.
Runners will receive a water, a sweet treat and a medal to acknowledge their achievement at the race finish! Your little ones will feel like champions, feel healthy with some fun family-friendly exercise and take in the incredible atmosphere of race day!
There’s really no pressure to set amazingly fast times or even run the whole way. The Family Mile is designed for runners of all ages and to get more people involved in the day. We’re expecting inventive fancy dress, lots of smiles and even more support from a buzzing crowd. Come out, enjoy the day and experience the thrill of Wales premium mass participation long distance race. We’ll see you there!
As our registration postage deadline (16th April) has passed, anyone registering now will need to collect their pack from our Event Information Tent on Usk Way. Please arrive to have your number collected at least 30 mins before the start of the race at 12:30. On-the-day entries will not be available.
FAMILY MILE FAQS
Q. Is there an age limit?
A. There is no set age limit for the ABP Newport Family Mile. However, any runners aged 8 or under must be accompanied by an adult at all times during the race. Event organisers have the right to prevent any unaccompanied runners (who are under the required age) from running.
Q. Are pushchairs allowed on the course?
A. Yes, for this particular race pushchairs are allowed.
Q. Are there more details about the Family Mile route?
A. The route starts on Newport’s vibrant riverside and continues across the River Usk. The route equates to a distance of 1 mile.
Q. Are runners allowed to wear fancy dress?
A. Fancy dress is very much welcomed. However, it is important that costumes are in no way offensive.
Q. What is a race pack?
A. Each runner will receive a Family Mile race pack before the event if they have registered online. This will contain all relevant information regarding the race, as well as a race number.
Q. How fit do you have to be to complete the course?
A. The Family Mile welcomes participants of all fitness levels. In previous years some participants have preferred to walk the whole course, particularly if they are accompanied by children.
