Every runner with a place in the ABP Newport Wales Marathon, 10K or Family Mile will be able to use it at the rescheduled event on Sunday 24 October 2021. For those unable to attend the new date, there are also a number of additional options available.
The options on this page are applicable to those registered for any of the following entry categories:
Marathon – Launch Entry, Early Bird Entry, General Entry, Affiliated Entry, Welsh Athletics Entry, Welsh Distance Double Pass
10K – General Entry, Affiliated Entry, Multi-Event Pass (10K Season Ticket)
Family Mile – Individual, Group

A free transfer to the rescheduled event on 24 October 2021. Your entry has been transferred automatically so you do not need to re-register. We will keep you updated with details on the re-scheduled event as it draws closer.
Alternative options can be seen below if you would rather not attend the rescheduled event.
The opportunity to participate virtually in 2021 instead. We recognise that an autumn marathon may not have been what you had in mind, or that some runners won’t feel ready to return to a mass participation event this year. If you’d rather, you can opt to run the race virtually instead. To offer ultimate flexibility, runners will be able to log a virtual marathon any time between 1 April and 31 October 2021. 10K runners can also opt to run virtually.
We will send those who complete the race virtually a finishers medal and t-shirt in the post and will cover the postage costs. All finishers items will be distributed at the end of the participation window in October 2021, to coincide with the delivery of the physical event. Items will feature the same design as those distributed at the physical race.
If you would like to take up this option, you will need to transfer into the virtual race using the instructions below by Sunday 31 January 2021. Please note that if you take up this option your space in the physical race will be cancelled and this cannot be undone.
- Login to the MyEvents portal using the email and password created when registering.
- Select ‘2021 ABP Newport Wales Marathon’ or ‘10K’ (if it does not appear – select ‘claim registration’ and enter the registration ID from your confirmation email).
- Select the ‘Change Event’ button and then ‘2021 Virtual Newport Wales Marathon’ or ‘2021 Virtual Newport Wales 10K’.
- Complete the registration form. You will not have to pay anything at the checkout.
Please note: If you purchased an entry via one of our official charities, a corporate package or by using a discount code you will need to contact the charity or code issuer to discuss if transferring into the virtual race is possible. There is not a virtual option for the Family Mile.
The chance to swap your entry for a Credit Note Voucher, redeemable against any future Run 4 Wales event purchase. If you would not like to attend the rescheduled event, you can claim the amount you paid for your entry as a digital voucher, redeemable against any future Run 4 Wales event purchase. If the event you register for in future costs less, you will retain the additional un-used value for another future purchase.
Run 4 Wales organise the Newport Wales Marathon & 10K, Cardiff Half Marathon, Cardiff Bay Run, Porthcawl 10K and Barry Island 10K – and credit note vouchers can be used against any of these events.
If you would like to take up this option, you must follow the instructions below to request a credit note voucher by Sunday 31 January 2021. There is no time limit on using the voucher.
- Login to the MyEvents portal using the email and password created when registering.
- Select ‘2021 ABP Newport Wales Marathon’, ’10K’ or ‘Family Mile’; (if it does not appear – select ‘claim registration’ and enter the registration ID from your confirmation email).
- Select the ‘Change Event’ button and then ‘R4W Credit Note Voucher’.
- Select the event (marathon or 10K) and entry type you were registered for (i.e Early Bird Entry, Launch Entry, General Entry, Affiliated Entry, Welsh Athletics Entry, Welsh Distance Double Pass, 10K Multi-Event Pass’) then complete the registration form. You will not have to pay anything at the checkout, if you have selected the correct entry type.
- Your credit note request will be processed by 28 February 2021 at the latest. You will receive an e-mail once it has been, with instructions on how to use it.
The opportunity to transfer your space to another runner and receive your entry fee back, if you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, we will waive the usual £5.80 transfer fee and you will have until Monday 13th September 2021 at 4pm to make the transfer.
Please note, for insurance and medical reasons, all transfers must be conducted through the official transfer service – which is set up to ensure you do not need to share personal or payment information – just a transfer link. The runner taking up your space will pay for an entry, and when the transaction is complete the cost of your entry will be returned to your payment card.
Donate your entry to the R4W Charitable Foundation. The R4W Charitable Foundation (registered charity number 1160212) awards funding to grassroots sport and other community projects (such as the Welsh Schools Athletic Association, parkrun and the Run Wales social running programme).
Since 2012, it has awarded over £500,000 to projects in Wales. The foundation is usually funded by the surpluses generated by Run 4 Wales events, which have not been able to go ahead since October 2019 because of COVID-19, so your support will help at a crucial time.
If you cannot attend the new date and would like to donate your entry, please follow the instructions below. Your entry in the rescheduled event will be cancelled, and you will not be able to un-do this. We thank you for your support, it is really appreciated.

- Select ‘2021 ABP Newport Wales Marathon’, ’10K’ or ‘Family Mile’ ; (if it does not appear – select ‘claim registration’ and enter the registration ID from your confirmation email).
- Select the ‘Change Event’ button and then ‘R4W Charitable Foundation Donation’.
- Select the event (marathon or 10K) and entry type you were registered for (i.e Early Bird Entry, Launch Entry, General Entry, Affiliated Entry, Welsh Athletics Entry, Welsh Distance Double Pass, 10K Multi-Event Pass’) then complete the registration form to process the donation.
The chance to swap between the marathon and 10K races. If the new event date means you’d rather tackle a different distance on race day, there will be an opportunity to transfer between marathon and 10K or 10K and marathon.
Marathon runners can drop down to the 10K free of charge, but 10K runners will need to pay the difference in entry fee.
