Runners taking part in this year’s ABP Newport Marathon Festival can fuel up ready for race day at an exclusive pasta party.
The event will ensure participants are well fuelled by the time they get into their race penne and give them the energy they need to run farfalle – whether that’s in the 10K, Half Marathon or full Marathon distance.
Taking place on Saturday 18 April from 6pm to 8.30pm – the evening before the race – the pasta party will not only enable people to get a good carb-loading but it will also feature last minute race day tips and Q&A session with James Thie, former international middle-distance athlete and coach, who also works with training app Coopah. Race Director, and double Olympic marathoner, Steve Brace will also be on hand to answer any questions about the course.
You’d be fusilli to miss it so don’t forget to tagliatelle along!
Held in Newport Market, a thriving indoor market and Europe’s biggest market regeneration, there will be a variety of food options including mac & cheese, pesto (which is gluten free, vegan and nut free), tomato & mozzarella and a ragu. Garlic bread is also included.
Tickets cost £20 per person (+ booking fee) and are open to Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K entrants, as well as their supporters.
Steve Brace, Race Director at Run 4 Wales and double Olympic marathoner, said: “We’re really excited to be putting on our first ever pasta party for the ABP Newport Marathon Festival. Pasta is an excellent source of energy for running.
“If you’re running a big event like a marathon or half marathon you should think about carb-loading. The night before your race your meal should be small and high in carbs but ensure to leave plenty of time to digest so you don’t wake up feeling too heavy. On race day morning you then need to make sure you’re fuelling with a decent breakfast that is light, but high in carbs – such as a bowl of porridge, peanut butter on toast, a bagel or pancakes – two-three hours before the race.
“We’re very much looking forward to welcoming our runners to this year’s ABP Newport Marathon Festival on Sunday 19 April and seeing a few of them the night before where they can get answers to all their last-minute race day questions.”
The pasta party is just one of many exciting things happening across the ABP Newport Marathon Festival weekend and there will also be a Women’s Running Conference held on the Saturday in the University of South Wales building between 10am-4pm too.
