Monmouthshire Building Society has linked up with a local running club in Brecon, offering its members spaces in the ABP Newport Wales Marathon and 10K, which will take place later this month.
The building society which was established in Newport has been officially affiliated with the event for 4 years and throughout the partnership has engaged with various Welsh community groups and charities.
Speaking about their latest community initiative Kirsty Maloney, Regional Retail Team Leader from MBS said: “When exploring community engagement for the 2023 ABP Newport Wales 10K we were keen to develop links with a local running club. We actually have more in common with the running club ethos than you initially think, with both entities playing important roles in community life, through offering local support and encouraging people to grow and prosper.
“Our Brecon branch is one of our more rural, so it was fantastic to be able to connect with individuals from that area. We are a delighted that Brecon Athletic Club have taken up the spaces and look forward to seeing them cross the finish line on the day.
Derek Osborne, a runner from Brecon Athletic Club (AC) commented: ““The offer of complimentary running spaces from Monmouthshire Building Society was gratefully received, especially because the ABP Newport Wales Marathon and 10K is a popular event in the running calendar. Times are tough financially at the moment, so you can’t underestimate how beneficial every saving, however small is.
“It’s great having a Welsh building society as such a prominent part of Brecon high street and even greater one that recognises the importance of the word community and the roles that various groups such as Brecon AC play in generating local togetherness.”
