Runners taking part in the ABP Newport Marathon Festival as part of the event’s 100 Club met up to get race day ready with a training and Q&A session.
The event which was held at Rodney Parade wanted to bring the group together and alleviate any anxieties around the race.
Through the 100 Club Run 4 Wales gives away 100 free spaces into the event with the goal of helping its members improve their health and wellbeing, and this year includes participants from groups including Slimming World, Live Love Light Healing Hub, Newport Live and #ifyougoigo as well as nominated members of the Newport community.
For many of them this will be the first time they are taking part in a 10K or half marathon and Run 4 Wales Race Director and double Olympic marathoner, Steve Brace, together with Event Manager, Chris Jeynes, were on hand to answer questions and concerns.
The runners also enjoyed a jog over to the race day start line before taking part in an interval session around the pitch at Rodney Parade.
Run 4 Wales decided to bring its 100 Club initiative to Newport for the first time last year after seeing the positive impact it can have on people’s health and wellbeing following its roll out at the Principality Cardiff Half in 2015.
The club also hopes to achieve a legacy impact with members inspiring others to get active and take part in mass participation events.
Run 4 Wales Race Director, Steve Brace, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come to our 100 Club training event, meet one another, get stuck in asking questions and pushing themselves in our training session.
“Running is a fantastic sport that can bring a multitude of benefits to our health and wellbeing and it’s so important to us that as many people as possible have the opportunity to get active, make healthy lifestyle changes and take part in our events.”
Look out for the 100 Club runners at the ABP Newport Marathon Festival on Sunday 13 April.
